London, UK – 23 June 2025 – Teens in AI, a social impact-driven initiative that inspires young people to explore futures in responsible tech and AI through collaborative, hands-on learning, is proud to announce the return of its global AI4Good Incubator, taking place from 28 July to 1 August 2025. With the support of our Platinum Partner, Sage, the leader in accounting, financial, HR and payroll tech for small and mid-sized businesses, we aim to provide youth with the tools and resources they need to drive innovation and make a difference in their communities.

Teens in AI’s partnership with Sage is powered by Sage Foundation, which enables Sage colleagues and partners to tackle inequality and create access to opportunity in its communities through volunteering and fundraising. Through the AI4Good Incubator, Teens in AI and Sage Foundation hope to harness technology to create a fairer and more diverse tech industry where everyone has equal opportunity to maximise their potential.

Now in its fourth year, the AI4Good Incubator is a 5-day global virtual bootcamp for teens aged 12–18 work in teams to develop ethical, AI-driven solutions to some of the world’s most pressing climate-related challenges taking inspiration from the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). With the support of Platinum Partner Sage, the programme equips young people with the tools, mentorship and inspiration they need to become change-makers in their communities.

Open to all – regardless of prior experience or background – it brings together young minds passionate about technology, equity and impact. Participants join from around the world, working in diverse teams and receiving guidance from leading industry experts. As part of our bold strategy to scale the AI4Good Incubator, 2025 marks two major milestones: our first in-person programme in South Africa – led by our IWD Global Techathon 2025 Community Award winners – and a wider focus on tackling even more UN SDGs.

Last year, 58% of participants identified as female or non-binary, and 75% came from diverse ethnic backgrounds*. With Sage, Teens in AI champions diversity as key to building better solutions and shaping a tech future that works for everyone.

This year’s theme, “Planet in Balance ~ Land, Sea and Sky”, focuses on United Nations SDGs 13, 14 and 15. These include: taking urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts (13); conserving and sustainably using the oceans, seas and marine resources (14); and protecting and restoring ecosystems on land, halting biodiversity loss and managing forests and land sustainably (15).

Aaron Harris, Chief Technology Officer at Sage, comments: Our continued partnership with Teens in AI reflects our belief that young people have the creativity and conviction to lead meaningful change. By supporting the AI4Good Incubator, we’re investing in a new generation of technologists who value ethics, equity and sustainability. This programme doesn’t just teach AI – it encourages young people to think critically, act boldly and use technology to tackle real environmental challenges. It’s inspiring to see the solutions they bring to life – and a reminder that the future of tech is in good hands.”

The 2024 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Progress Report** paints a stark picture. Just 15% of climate-related targets are on track. Ocean acidification is worsening, jeopardising marine biodiversity and food security. Land degradation affects over 3.2 billion people, and more than one million species remain at risk of extinction. These cascading crises call for bold, youth-led innovation—the kind the AI4Good Incubator is designed to unlock.

Elena Sinel, Founder and CEO of Teens in AI comments: “Young people are not waiting to be told how to solve the climate crisis – they’re stepping up and building the solutions themselves. Through the AI4Good Incubator, we’re giving them the knowledge, support and platform to apply ethical AI to the most urgent challenges facing our planet. The future is not only theirs to inherit – it’s theirs to shape.”

Over the five-day programme, participants will ideate, build and refine their projects with the guidance of expert mentors. At the end of the week, teams will pitch to senior leaders for feedback and a chance to win prizes. Previous winners went on to submit their projects to Oxford-Said Climate Challenge and were flown to Dubai to compete live!

In the words of one of last year’s alumni, It was a whole new world to me! I was expecting excellent work, good interaction and participation with my team, and [the experience] exceeded my expectations. Every lesson was educational and interesting. It was interesting to find solutions for the problems caused by humans and how we can use AI to solve them. It was amazing! – Joy, age 15, from Ghana.

London, UK – 4 February 2025 – Teens in AI, a social impact-driven initiative that inspires teens to explore a future in responsible tech and AI through collaborative, hands-on learning experiences, is delighted to announce its collaboration with The Alan Turing Institute as part of its Children’s AI Summit on 4 February 2025. The Alan Turing Institute is the UK’s national institute for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, named in honour of Alan Turing, whose pioneering work laid the foundation for modern computing. Together, they believe in harnessing technology to create a fair world where everyone has equal opportunity to maximise their potential.

The Children’s AI Summit will bring together over 100 children from across the UK, aged 8–18, to share their perspectives on the future of AI. Organised by The Alan Turing Institute’s Children & AI team in partnership with Queen Mary University of London and supported by the Lego Group, Elevate Great and EY, the event aims to amplify young voices in shaping AI’s role in their lives. With children chairing panel discussions, leading performances, and presenting their messages to global leaders, the Summit emphasises the importance of their inclusion in AI policy and innovation.

Teens in AI’s Founder and CEO, Elena Sinel, will join the Children’s AI Summit as both the Chair and a Judge for the Pitching Session on visions of Future AI, evaluating participants’ ideas and contributions.

In addition, Elena has been invited to deliver both the opening and closing keynote addresses for the Pitching Session, underscoring the significance of youth participation in AI development. With 12 Teens in AI alumni taking part in the Summit, her contributions will highlight the real-world impact of empowering young people with AI skills and opportunities.

Dr Mhairi Aitken, Senior Ethics Fellow at the Alan Turing Institute, said: AI technology continues to advance at a rapid pace but so far children have been overlooked in discussions around AI policy or regulation and children’s unique experiences with the technology are not well understood by decision makers in AI policy or industry. Involving children in these discussions is absolutely essential to advancing responsible innovation to realise the potential value that AI can bring. That’s why we’re so excited to have the opportunity to hear from these children and to bring their views to the AI Action Summit in Paris where important decisions on the future of AI will be made.

The Turing’s Children & AI team will deliver experiences and perspectives from the Children’s AI Summit at the AI Action Summit in Paris, France. The AI Action Summit, held on 10 and 11 February 2025, will bring together Heads of State and Government, leaders of international organisations, CEOs, academics, NGOs, artists, and members of civil society. The summit aligns seamlessly with Teens in AI’s International Women’s Day (IWD) Global Techathon Inspiration Week (10–14 February), a celebration of young innovators using AI to address real-world challenges and drive meaningful change based on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Teens in AI Founder and CEO, Elena Sinel, comments: “Our partnership with The Alan Turing Institute represents a shared mission to ensure young people have a seat at the table in shaping the future of AI. Being invited to Judge at the Children’s AI Summit is both an honour and a testament to the importance of amplifying young voices in this critical conversation. Together, we are committed to driving meaningful change by empowering children to influence AI’s development and ensuring their perspectives are heard by global leaders and policymakers.

This collaboration is a consolidation of aligned missions, following on from Dr Mhairi Aitken, Morgan Briggs and Sabeehah Mahomed from the Institute’s Public Policy Programme delivering an ‘Introduction to AI Ethics’ Masterclass to participants at Teens in AI’s 2024 AI4Good Incubator. The masterclass was a foundational guide to responsible innovation, exploring the landscape of AI Ethics, unravelling AI myths, and emphasising core AI ethics principles, particularly in safeguarding children’s rights under the UNCRC.

January has been a month of reporting reporting reporting! We’re so excited to be sharing our Annual Report.

In 2024, Teens in AI made incredible strides in shaping a more inclusive future in AI! With 97 countries engaged, impacting 82% of participants from diverse ethnic backgrounds! We’re breaking barriers and redefining what’s possible.

We have so far impacted …
🔹 20,341+ teen participants
of whom …
🔹 80% of whom are from diverse ethnic backgrounds
with Mentors across all programmes contributing …
🔹 8,169 mentorship hours, a 135% surge in mentor engagement!

Reflecting on 2024, it is remarkable to see how our programmes have evolved and deepened their impact year on year. Comparing our performance with 2023, we have not only expanded our reach but also strengthened our commitment to inclusivity, innovation, and ethical AI education.

Participation from state-run schools continues to rise, underscoring our mission to make AI education accessible to those who would otherwise lack such opportunities. This year, 75% of participants came from state schools, a testament to our focus on inclusivity. Gender diversity also remains a cornerstone of our success, with girls* representing an all-time 57% of participants—a steady and vital step towards greater equity in technology fields.

A standout achievement has been the growth in engagement hours contributed by mentors and instructors. These hours surged by 135% compared to 2023, reflecting the extraordinary dedication of our community to nurturing the next generation of leaders in AI.

According to PwC’s 2024 Global AI Jobs Barometer, sectors more exposed to AI are experiencing nearly five times higher labour productivity growth than those less exposed. This surge underscores the critical importance of equipping young minds with AI skills, ensuring they are prepared to thrive in an increasingly AI-driven world. Our participants have shown a significant year-on-year improvement in their understanding of AI ethics and teamwork, two pillars essential to building a thoughtful and collaborative AI ecosystem.

Beyond the numbers, our impact is reflected in the real-world innovations driven by our participants—like our IWD Global Techathon campaign overall winning team from Ukrainian’s ground-breaking app, ConnectAbility (pages 32-34). Their success embodies our belief in the transformative power of youth when given the right tools and platform.

Special thanks to our valued partners Sage powered by Sage Foundation, Capgemini , Beiersdorf, and our valued collaborators including The Alan Turing Institute for their incredible support!

London, UK, 21 January 2025 – Teens in AI, an initiative dedicated to inspiring young people to explore careers in artificial intelligence through collaborative and immersive experiences, is collaborating with Red Hat, a leading provider of enterprise open source solutions, for its 2025 flagship International Women’s Day Global Techathon campaign. This collaboration aims to foster AI literacy, inspire future talent, and address the global AI skills gap.

Red Hat is dedicated to championing open source AI innovation, paving the way for the future of this technology to be built on a foundation of community-driven development, shared progress and choice.

Claire Delalande, Vice President of Marketing for EMEA at Red Hat, says: “At Red Hat, we believe that the future of AI is open and not confined to a select few. We are delighted to support Teens in AI in their efforts to inspire and nurture future AI talent, enabling young people to engage with innovative technologies and explore their potential. This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to fostering a future where AI is not only innovative but dependable, ensuring it serves as a force for good across industries and communities.

In celebration of International Women’s Day (IWD), the Teens in AI IWD2025 Global Techathon will run from February to April 2025. This annual initiative invites young people, ages 12 to 18, from around the world to collaboratively solve real-world problems using AI and data science. Challenges focus on the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, empowering participants to apply emerging technologies for social good. Events will be held in multiple languages, with workshops including AI Ethics, Design Thinking and soft skills such as pitching.

As noted in Red Hat’s recent research, organisations often struggle to incorporate AI effectively due to a lack of in-house expertise. The collaboration with Teens in AI aligns with Red Hat’s goal of making AI consumable, usable and reliable. This programme provides teenagers with the opportunity to develop critical skills and gain hands-on experience, addressing the skills gap highlighted in Red Hat’s survey on AI’s impact on cloud strategies in the UK.

Teens in AI Founder and CEO Elena Sinel shares: “At Teens in AI, our focus is on equipping young people from all backgrounds with the tools and opportunities to explore the transformative potential of AI for social good. By empowering the next generation to develop the skills and confidence to navigate and shape this evolving field, we are helping to create a more inclusive and innovative AI ecosystem. This year’s theme, ‘Accelerate Action’, underscores the importance of broadening access to these spaces, ensuring that diverse perspectives, including those that have historically been underrepresented, play a role in shaping the future of technology.

Red Hat’s support is vital in driving the success of the IWD campaign, amplifying opportunities for teenagers from diverse backgrounds to thrive in AI and technology into their futures.

The programme begins with Inspiration Week in February, coinciding with the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, followed by Bootcamp Week later in February, a series of global techathons in March and culminating in the Virtual Panel and International Demo Day on 24 April 2025, coinciding with International Girls in ICT Day. Participants will gain valuable exposure to AI, data science, and design thinking, contributing to Red Hat’s AI vision for an open source future.

London, UK, 13 January 2025 – Teens in AI, an initiative focused on inspiring teens to explore a future in tech and AI through collaborative, hands-on learning experiences, continues its partnership with Sage, the leader in accounting, financial, HR and payroll tech for small and mid-sized businesses, to launch its 2025 flagship International Women’s Day Techathon campaign, running from February to April 2025. Both organisations share a common goal in leveraging technology to build an equitable world where every individual has an equal chance to unlock their potential, fostering innovation and generating positive societal change.

In celebration of International Women’s Day, Teens in AI run annual, distributed Global Techathons inspiring teens aged 12 to 18 to come together to collaboratively solve a real-world problem through the use of AI and Data Science for social good. This hackathon-style programme is either in-person or virtual, with challenges centred around the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.

Aaron Harris, Chief Technology Officer at Sage, comments: At Sage, we are committed to knocking down barriers so everyone can thrive. One of the best ways we can do this is by empowering the next generation of innovators. The Teens in AI IWD Global Techathon continues to champion this vision, by providing young people from all backgrounds with the opportunities to engage with cutting-edge technology, whilst addressing real-world challenges. By being proactive for the future female talent of tomorrow, we’re collectively fostering creativity, diversity, and technological advancements to the greater benefit of us all.

For over a century, International Women’s Day has championed progress and action, providing ongoing inspiration for Teens in AI’s campaigns. This year’s theme, ‘Accelerate Action’, resonates deeply with Teens in AI and Sage’s shared mission to drive meaningful change in AI. By advancing AI literacy, education, and awareness, both organisations are committed to creating a future where diverse voices shape the AI landscape. According to UNESCO, women make up only 22% of AI professionals worldwide, highlighting the critical need to accelerate efforts toward greater representation and equity. Addressing this disparity requires deliberate, focused action to build a more inclusive and diverse AI ecosystem.

Teens in AI Founder and CEO, Elena Sinel, adds: “Accelerating action to address the disparities in diversity and representation within the AI and tech industries is critical to building a future shaped by a wide range of voices and free from bias. At Teens in AI, our mission is to empower teens from all backgrounds with the skills and opportunities to explore technology’s potential for social good. With only 29.2% of STEM roles—and a similarly low percentage in AI—occupied by women globally, it’s clear that urgent and focused efforts are needed, particularly to support girls in accessing these spaces. This year’s theme, ‘Accelerate Action’, reflects the urgency of our work and reinforces our commitment to driving meaningful change.

The IWD2025 Global Techathon will see participants come together from 79 locations around the world from the UK and Europe, across Africa, and the Americas, to Asia and the Middle East! They will immerse themselves in a challenging, hands-on tech experience that allows them to explore careers in AI, Data Science and Design Thinking; and learn how these emerging fields intersect with other industries. This year, in addition to participating in a techathon in their native country, participants from around the world will also have access to selected core skills workshops such as AI Ethics, Design Thinking and Pitching, in English, French, German and Spanish. In 2024, we had techathons delivered in 17 languages across 22 counties.

Sage’s support is vital in driving the success of the IWD campaign, amplifying opportunities for young people from diverse backgrounds to thrive in AI and technology into their futures. A shining example would be Sheila, an alumna of Teens in AI, began her journey in our programmes and has since hosted two impactful IWD techathons in Tanzania, empowering underserved youth with AI and coding skills. Now a Data Science student and founder of Code Her, she continues to inspire through initiatives like leading Teens in AI Tanzania and creating a decentralised skill-sharing platform. Sheila is just one of the many young people who have used Teens in AI’s programmes as an opportunity to open doors to their future.

With the resounding success of IWD’s inaugural Bootcamp Week in 2024, we have decided to make it a permanent fixture on the roster of experiential learning. Our 2025 event will kick off with Inspiration Week in February (coinciding with ‘International Day of Women and Girls in Science’), followed by Bootcamp Week later in the month; with the Global Techathons running throughout the month of March (aligning with ‘International Women’s Day’); and in April, a Virtual Panel and International Demo Day, which concludes the programme, on 24 April 2025 (coinciding with ‘International Girls in Information and Communications Technology Day’).
