Acceptable Use of Generative AI Tools Policy

The purpose of this policy is to ensure the ethical, responsible, and legal use of generative AI tools during Acorn Aspirations Ltd trading as Teens in AI events. Adherence to this policy helps maintain a safe, respectful, and conducive environment for all participants to learn, collaborate, and innovate.

Acorn Aspirations Ltd, trading as Teens in AI, is a registered company in England under company number 09349572 and whose registered office is at 50 Woodgate, Leicester, England, LE3 5GF, United Kingdom.

Teens in AI is committed to creating a vibrant, safe, and inclusive space for young people to learn, experiment, and grow with AI. This policy supports our mission by ensuring that generative AI is used responsibly and ethically.

Ethical Conduct: Misrepresentation – including generating content (text, images, ideas, or code) falsely attributed to real individuals or creating synthetic identities – is strictly prohibited without explicit consent. Generative AI must be used in ways that respect the rights, agency, and dignity of all individuals.

Content Creation: Participants must clearly declare when generative AI has been used in their content creation, including for text, images, code, or conceptualisation of ideas. The use of generative AI to produce content that is illegal, discriminatory, defamatory, misleading, or otherwise offensive is strictly forbidden.

Respectful Interaction: Generative AI must not be used to facilitate harassment, bullying, intimidation, or discrimination. Any such behaviour will be regarded as serious misconduct.

Confidentiality and Security: Participants must not share confidential or sensitive information with unauthorised parties, including external AI service providers. Any activity that compromises the security or integrity of the event – such as unauthorised access to datasets, platforms, or systems – is strictly prohibited.

Legal Compliance: All use of generative AI must comply with applicable laws and regulations, including those relating to data protection, privacy, and intellectual property. Any unlawful activity involving AI tools is prohibited.

Transparency: Wherever feasible, the use of generative AI must be clearly disclosed and labelled. Others should be made aware when they are engaging with AI-generated content, code, or predictions.

Responsible Innovation: Generative AI should be used in line with the goals of the programme: to foster creativity, learning, collaboration, and innovation. All use must be responsible, inclusive, and socially conscious.

Generative AI in Coding: Generative AI tools may be used to assist with coding and software development, provided they are used ethically and in line with relevant copyright and open-source licence agreements. The use of AI tools to generate harmful or malicious code, or to exploit system vulnerabilities, is strictly prohibited.

Use of AI-Generated Voice: Participants may use AI-generated voiceovers in video content. When doing so, a disclaimer must be included at the end of the video, clearly stating that an AI-generated voice was used. This ensures transparency and prevents potential misrepresentation. This disclaimer should read: “An AI-generated voice was used in the production of this video”.

Intellectual Property Rights: Participants must respect the intellectual property rights of others. The unauthorised use of copyrighted material, proprietary models, or datasets in conjunction with generative AI tools is strictly prohibited.

Policy Compliance: Compliance with this policy is required throughout the event. Breaches may result in disqualification and potential further action, depending on the nature and severity of the violation.

Policy Changes: This policy may be reviewed and updated periodically to reflect evolving ethical, legal, and technological standards. Participants are expected to stay informed about the latest version of this policy.

AI Governance: For any questions, concerns, or clarification around the use of generative AI, participants should contact the event organisers or the Teens in AI team.
