Microsoft to release new high-end devices with Windows 10

Windows Phone is being dominated by low-cost devices led by the Lumia 520, which is still the best Windows device ever. Microsoft is clearly betting on the low-end this year as the company launched a couple of budget oriented devices but no new flagships. The current high-end models, Lumia 930 and 1520, are over a year old now and all users are hoping for a new flagship before the end of 2014. But that is not going to happen.

It’s clear that Microsoft will keep its best offerings for the next year and launch them running the new platform – Windows 10. Until then, Redmond will hope that the Windows Phone’s user base will continue to grow, with growth stimulated by the last additions to the Lumia line-up – Lumia 730/35, 830 and Lumia 535.

Lumia 1030 won’t happen

Three possible high-end devices could be released in 2015, which will be the first within the new fourth series of Lumias.

Microsoft Lumia 940 could be a successor to the Lumia 930 with an improved PureView camera, better processor with more RAM, and expandable storage. Another highly anticipated device is the Lumia 1020 follow-up. While users are still waiting for Lumia 1030, Microsoft will probably just skip it and focus on the Lumia 1040 running Windows 10. The next camera phone should satisfy all photo enthusiasts as it is expected to come with a modern processor, much more capable in handling the monster 41MP PureView camera on the back. Finally, Microsoft Lumia 1540 could be the new, better plablet, a replacement of the Lumia 1520 with similar specs to the Lumia 940.

CES 2015 in Las Vegas between 6th and 9th of January could give us more information about Microsoft’s plans for new devices and Windows 10.
